Try It Yourself First

Download the student workbook and work through each part of the accounting cycle before checking the solution. The goal is to practice the process, not just watch someone else do it.

What You’ll Work Through

This capstone follows one company through the complete accounting cycle so you can practice the steps in context instead of as disconnected homework problems. Journal Entries Record the company’s original transactions. General Ledger / T-Accounts Post each journal entry and calculate ending balances. Unadjusted Trial Balance Transfer the account balances and verify that debits equal credits. Adjusting Entries Work through accrued revenue, accrued expense, unearned revenue, prepaid expense, and depreciation. Adjusted Trial Balance Update the balances after the adjusting entries. Financial Statements Prepare the income statement, statement of stockholders’ equity, and balance sheet. Closing Entries Close the temporary accounts through Income Summary. Post-Closing Trial Balance See which accounts remain after closing and carry forward to the next period.

Hi, I'm Lisa

I’m a CPA and accounting professor with 14 years of experience in public accounting, including Big 4 audit experience. I teach hundreds of accounting students each year, and one pattern comes up again and again: students can often solve individual accounting problems but struggle when they have to put the entire cycle together. I built this capstone so you can practice putting the entire accounting cycle together in one problem instead of learning each step in isolation.
